Executive Unit Reports Increase in Displaced Persons Across 8 Governorates to Over 158,000, Renewing Urgent Call for Humanitarian Response.
The Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Yemen has issued a unified report announcing an increase in the number of registered Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across eight liberated governorates to 158,109 individuals (23,550 families). This surge stems from the ongoing military escalation, shelling, armed clashes, and deteriorating security conditions, according to the latest update released by the Unit on September 20, 2026, covering displacement movements up to September 19.
The report detailed the geographic distribution of displaced families, with Taiz Governorate topping the list of host areas at 11,867 families (83,123 individuals) spread across 15 districts. Lahj Governorate followed, hosting 5,472 families (38,304 individuals) across 9 districts, most notably Al-Mudharabah Wa Al-Arah, Tuban, and Al-Musaymir. In the temporary capital, Aden, registered families reached 3,114 (15,003 individuals) distributed across the governorate’s various districts, while Al Hodeidah Governorate recorded 1,471 families (10,297 individuals) in the districts of Hays and Khawkhah, alongside newly monitored displacement movements from Hays and Khawkhah toward Aden. Additionally, Abyan Governorate received 1,420 families (9,940 individuals) residing primarily in camps within Khanfir and Zinjibar districts, with the remaining families distributed across Hadhramaut (110 families), Al Mahrah (70 families), and Shabwah (26 families).
The Executive Unit emphasized that most displaced families were forced to abandon their homes and assets abruptly, compounding human suffering and exacerbating economic vulnerabilities. Immediate needs center on providing emergency shelter materials, food baskets, and multi-purpose cash assistance, along with clean drinking water, basic health services, and hygiene supplies.
