Forced Displacement of Over 7,000 Individuals to Aden Amid Absence of Humanitarian Response
An emergency report issued by the Executive Unit for IDPs Camp Management in Aden revealed the arrival of 1,622 displaced families (totaling 7,162 individuals) in the temporary capital, Aden, as of September 16, 2026. The report confirmed that this displacement movement is directly linked to military escalation and shelling on residential areas in Al Hodeidah and Taizz governorates, which together account for more than 95% of all arrivals.
The IDP families are distributed across several districts in Aden, with Al Buraiqeh leading as the primary host area with 1,045 families, followed by Dar Sad (274 families), Al Mansoora (178 families), and Ash Shaikh Outhman (79 families). Additional families were recorded in Khur Maksar, Al Mualla, At Tawahi, and Crater. The report noted that approximately 79% of documented families are currently staying with host families, placing increasing strain on local communities amid a lack of sustainable housing solutions.
The Executive Unit warned of a severe humanitarian gap in the governorate, highlighting the absence of an active sectoral response at the time of reporting, except for the distribution of limited light meals. The Unit renewed its appeal to humanitarian partners, international organizations, and donors to intervene immediately and provide essential needs in shelter, food, water and sanitation (WASH), health services, and protection, particularly for vulnerable groups including women, children, and the elderly.Emergency Report until 16 sep_102905
