Escalating Humanitarian Suffering: Urgent Appeal to Relieve Over 131,000 IDPs Across 8 Yemeni Governorates
The Executive Unit for IDPs Camp Management in Yemen reported a significant surge in forced displacement waves due to military escalation, shelling, and the deterioration of security conditions for civilians. According to the unified report issued by the Prime Ministry and updated through September 16, 2026, displacement reached 19,417 families, totaling 131,781 individuals spread across eight governorates: Taizz, Lahj, Aden, Al Hodeidah, Abyan, Hadramaut, Al Mahrah, and Shabwah.
The report highlighted that Taizz Governorate topped the list of hosting areas with 10,129 displaced families, followed by Lahj with 4,809 families, Aden (1,622 families), Al Hodeidah (1,471 families), and Abyan (1,187 families). Additionally, newly arrived IDP families were recorded in Hadramaut (110 families), Al Mahrah (70 families), and Shabwah (19 families). The Executive Unit noted that most families were forced to abandon their homes and property abruptly, leaving them to face harsh living conditions without the bare minimum of basic necessities.
The Executive Unit launched an urgent humanitarian appeal to UN agencies, international and local NGOs, and donors to provide immediate life-saving interventions, particularly in shelter, food, water and sanitation (WASH), health services, and protection.
