Executive Unit Registers Over 9,700 Displaced Families Across 6 Yemeni Governorates and Issues an Urgent Appeal for Assistance
The Executive Unit for IDP Camps Management in Yemen (Ex.U.IDPs) announced the registration of 9,746 displaced families (comprising 68,338 individuals) across six governorates up to September 10, 2026, due to ongoing military escalation, shelling, clashes, and deteriorating security conditions.
The Executive Unit’s unified report highlighted that displacement movement covered the governorates of Al-Hodeidah, Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, and Shabwah. Taiz Governorate topped the list of host governorates with the largest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs), receiving 5,799 families (40,710 individuals) across 12 districts. It was followed by Lahj with 2,132 families (14,923 individuals, or 14,924 per the detailed table), Al-Hodeidah with 1,471 families (10,297 individuals), Abyan with 228 families (1,596 individuals), Aden with 104 families (728 individuals), and Shabwah with 12 families (84 individuals).
The Executive Unit warned of the widening humanitarian gap and the compounding suffering of displaced families who were forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods without sufficient time to secure basic needs. It noted a total absence of sectoral response for 104 newly displaced families in Aden Governorate, along with critical shortages in shelter services, food, safe drinking water, and sanitation.
The Executive Unit issued an urgent appeal to local authorities, UN agencies, international organizations, and donors to mobilize resources and intervene immediately to deliver emergency, life-saving aid. It emphasized the critical need to deploy rapid emergency assistance alongside field assessments to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation among displaced populations.
