Executive Unit Records Displacement of Over 8,900 Families Across 6 Yemeni Governorates and Issues Urgent Appeal

The Executive Unit for IDP Camps Management in Yemen (Ex.U.IDPs) announced the registration of 8,923 displaced families (comprising 62,460 individuals) across six governorates up to September 10, 2026, driven by ongoing military escalation, shelling, clashes, and deteriorating security conditions.

According to the Executive Unit’s consolidated report, displacement movement spanned the governorates of Al-Hudaydah, Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, and Shabwah. Taiz topped the list of host governorates, receiving the largest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) at 4,976 families (34,832 individuals) distributed across 12 districts. Lahj followed with 2,132 families, then Al-Hudaydah with 1,471 families, alongside hundreds of displaced families across Abyan, Aden, and Shabwah.

The Unit warned of a widening humanitarian gap and escalating hardship for displaced families who were forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods without sufficient time to secure basic necessities. It highlighted a complete absence of sectoral response for 104 newly displaced families in Aden, alongside critical shortages in shelter, food, safe drinking water, and sanitation services.

In response, the Executive Unit issued an urgent appeal to local authorities, UN agencies, international organizations, and donors to mobilize resources and intervene immediately with life-saving relief assistance. It emphasized the necessity of delivering emergency aid concurrently with field assessments to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation for the displaced.
